Important Update: Sign Up Now So You Don't Miss Friday's Full Newsletter
Reading Research Recap is Moving to a Paid Subscription Model.
Hi everyone,
I know you are not used to receiving an email from me on a Monday. This email does not contain research, but rather, an important update regarding the new subscription model. I have decided to enable paid subscriptions so that I am not losing money to create the newsletter. you can read more about why I am doing this below. I hope you understand.
How much will it cost?
$5/month if you want to pay monthly, or $50 a year (if you sign up for the year). That means you get 2 months free if you sign up for the yearly price!
How do I sign up?
Just click the “Subscribe now” button:
What will I get?
Paid subscribers will get the full recap newsletter each week on Friday and have access to the entire archives of old newsletters online. This includes several articles, book reviews, my commentary, and possibly additional features (in the works).
I believe strongly in the Recap’s dual goals of sharing recent scientific findings and fostering an appreciation of science as a way to navigate the world. Therefore, a free version will still be available. The free version will have 1-2 studies, but not the full newsletter with several studies, book reviews, commentary, etc.
When does it start?
Right now, so sign up ASAP if you want the full version of the newsletter on Friday! If you do not sign up by Friday you will receive the free version with only 1-2 studies.
Ugh, why did you have to do this?
I have to start charging for the newsletter so I am not losing money on it. Since I graduated in May, my access to journals is being shut off. I anticipated this day would come, but I was emailing and calling everyone I could to push it back a year or even a few more months. Unfortunately, it was not possible. So far, one publisher (SAGE) has granted me press access (a free account) after I shared the blog stats with them. Thank you, SAGE! The others have said no or have not responded. I currently survey over 30 peer-reviewed journals to produce the Reading Research Recap. Most have yearly subscriptions of about $100. That’s about $3,000 just in subscriptions. My goal is not to make money off the newsletter, I’m just trying to make sure I’m not losing money. So, that’s why I have to do this. I hope you understand.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, I believe you can cancel at any time. Here are FAQs from substack’s site.
